๐Ÿงฎ The Richmack Improvement Formula

A universal model for mastering any skill โ€” language, coding, music, fitness, public speaking โ€” by balancing practice, growth, and retention.

โš™๏ธ Understanding the Math & Practice Concepts

The Richmack Formula models how you grow through repetition, how fast you forget without review, and how re-learning compounds mastery.

n = ln(G) / (m ร— ln(1 + p))

  • G โ€” Target improvement (10ร—, 100ร—, etc.)
  • N โ€” Number of reps to double your skill once (experimentally found)
  • p โ€” Growth per rep = 21/N โˆ’ 1
  • m โ€” Reps (practice sessions) per day
  • n โ€” Total days to reach your target goal
๐Ÿ‹๏ธ What Is a โ€œRepโ€ or โ€œSessionโ€?

A rep is one focused, measurable block of effort that strengthens your skill โ€” like a workout set for your mind.

  • Languages: 30 minutes of focused reading, writing, speaking, or listening.
  • Public speaking: One complete rehearsal or short talk focusing on delivery and confidence.
  • Fitness: One structured workout or strength session.
  • Coding: Completing one bug fix, feature, or algorithmic problem.
  • Music: 20โ€“30 minutes practicing technique or performing a piece.
  • Study/Memory: One active recall or spaced-repetition block.

If you do three per day (e.g. read + write + speak), m = 3.

๐Ÿ“ˆ Example of the Math

If it takes 7 sessions to double your skill (N = 7) and you do 3 sessions/day, then each rep improves you by about 10 %. To become 100ร— better (G = 100): n = ln(100)/(3 ร— ln(1.104)) โ‰ˆ 15.5 days.

๐Ÿง  Forgetting Curve & Half-Life

Your memory naturally decays by half every H days (your half-life). After H days off โ†’ 50% remains, after 2H โ†’ 25%, 3H โ†’ 12.5%. Refreshers extend that half-life, letting you retain knowledge longer.

๐Ÿ’ก The 9000% Compounding Rule

Each time you finish a training cycle, take a rest near your half-life, and then repeat the cycle, your mastery compounds. You donโ€™t start from zeroโ€”you start from a compressed, more efficient memory base. This can yield total improvement of several thousand percent across cycles.

๐ŸŒ Real-Life Examples of Compounding Growth
  • ๐Ÿ‹๏ธ Strength: Bench press 100 โ†’ 200 โ†’ 400 lbs after three consistent cycles (~8 000 % gain).
  • ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Public Speaking: From nervous 2-min talk โ†’ confident 30-min speech with charisma and flow.
  • ๐Ÿง  Languages: 30-word vocabulary โ†’ 1 000 โ†’ 10 000 active words and fluent grammar recall.
  • ๐Ÿ’ป Coding: From beginner scripts โ†’ complete apps โ†’ algorithmic design and architecture mastery.
  • ๐ŸŽต Music: From playing notes to performing with emotion, dynamics, and stage presence.
